Angkor Archaeological Park is the most frequently visited tourist attraction in all of Cambodia. The early 12th century temple complex of Angkor Wat is merely one of over 100 sacred temples and landmarks from the country's glorious Khmer Empire era. Opening times and fees: 05:00 to 18:00 September to May and 05:00 to 18:30 June to August

Cambodia Landmine Museum ranks second to Angkor Archaeological Park on Siem Reap's most frequently visited attractions list despite its grim subject matter. The museum founder, Aki Ra, first planted, then removed, some of the six million landmines which were scattered across the country during the Khmer Rouge regime. The museum's four galleries are filled with guns, mortars, booby traps, and deactivated arms. Opening times and fees: 07:30 to 17:30

Angkor National Museum: no fewer than 1,000 Buddha images are part of the impressive collection of this museum depicting Khmer culture and many of the most impressive landmarks at the nearby Angkor Archaeological Park. Although most of the exhibits in this museum's eight galleries are centuries old, their accompanying video screens and displays are very much up to date. Opening times and fees: 08:30 to 18:00 April to September, 08:30 to 18:30 October to March

Angkor Silk Farm: Artisans d’Angkor first established this silk farm to revive and support traditional Cambodian weaving techniques. Each step of the silk making process, from silk worms to cocoons to high quality fabric, is carefully explained during two hour guided tours of this impressive facility. Two free shuttle buses travel to the silk farm from Artisans Angkor's main centre every day. Opening times and fees: Shuttle buses travel to the Angkor Silk Farm at 08:30 and 13:30 on a daily basis

Cambodia Cultural Village: locals and visitors alike will learn more about all of the different cultures of Cambodia here. An elephant show, circus performances, and traditional Apsara dances are on the long list of live performances which take place every day. This cultural village also features miniature replicas of Cambodian landmarks and a wax museum with statues of important historic figures. Opening times and fees: 09:00 to 21:00

Siem Reap Crocodile Farm: is the only crocodile farm in the area where visitors can freely see more than 500 South China crocodiles between one to 50 years of age. Leather handbags, belts, and wallets are some of the products visitors can purchase at the crocodile farm shop. Opening times and fees: 07:00 to 19:00

Banteay Srey Butterfly Centre: situated 25kms north of Siem Reap, this is Southeast Asia's most extensive exhibition of butterflies. Many of the rare and colourful butterflies on display at this butterfly centre's giant netted enclosure are native to Cambodia. Visitors can feed the butterflies, observe them in their pupae stage, or simply watch them fly around equally colourful tropical flowers. Opening times and fees: 09:00 to 17:00

Tonlé Sap Lake: the most unusual attractions here are the floating villages which surround South East Asia's biggest body of fresh water. The June to October rainy season is the most recommended time of year to tour these unique communities as these are the months when the Tonlé Sap River reverses its flow and water levels rise. The Gecko Environment Centre is part of the most frequently visited Tonlé Sap Lake floating village, Chong Khneas. Opening times and fees: No specific times or fees

McDermott Gallery: is named after John McDermott, one of the few photographers who was able to capture several stunning images of the Angkor Archaeological Park before mass tourism descended upon the area. This riverside gallery of photographs is situated adjacent to the Royal Residence. Opening times and fees: 10:00 to 22:00; free entry
